A vinyl mix of Afrobeat, Afro House, and other Afro goodies for the homies at impulse travels and traklife radio.
A mix created in the vacuum of 2020 without a dance floor in mind, but with it never far away. Basically what my set would sound like if I was just playing for myself. All kinds of music and messages.
Reggae, Rocksteady, Lovers Rock covers of popular songs for you to vibe to. There are a lot of these in existence so Iv'e narrowed it down to A Chosen Few (also the name of a band in the mix).
Uptempo, Afrocentric, dancefloor ready jams from Portugal, Africa, England, and Brazil. The first track is some crazy proto techno and the energy doesn’t drop from there.
Popular 90s RnB such as Zhane, Total, SWV, and of course Queen Badu. Some of the later output from Teddy Pendergrass and Kashif and a few other slept on artist to round out the mix.
All types of Funk… modern Funk, old Funk, instrumental funk, dance funk, soulful funk. Just press play and get down already… or download and enjoy at your own pace…either way you should be getting down!
Brazilian music always puts me in a good mood and Ive watched it light up dance floors on many occasions. Here are a few of my favorite tunes from one of the most diverse music scenes in the world. Ill admit my taste cover an older generation of Brazilian artist, but ive got some newer edits and covers mixed in to make up for it!
A little Jazz & Jazz Fusion to help you relax and unwind. Late 70s heavy selections with artist such as Bob James, Lonnie Liston Smith, Weldon Irvine. Hip hop fans will recognize many samples and maybe come to appreciate the original compositions that much more.
30 mins of 90s throwbacks including Wu-Tang, Nas, Outkast, Biggie, Gang Starr, Pharcyde. A few samples thrown in for good measure.
20 mins of 80s R&B from the likes of Billy Ocean, Kleeer, Loose Ends.
80s Funk, Boogie, & Disco. Commercially successful acts like Bootsy Collins, The Whispers and The O’Jays mixed in with more obscure artist like Richard Valentine and Network.
Open format summer mix, play it and chill out! Patrice Rushen, Keni Burke, Mary Jane Girls, The Internet, and Janet to name a few.

Mr. Tipton
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Mr. Tipton always heard Hip-Hop and Dancehall blasting out of passing cars. With a background in Jazz and Classical piano and the influence of his family, he developed an early taste for a wide range of music. After seeing legends like DJ Premier, Pete Rock, and Mr. Cee perform, Mr. Tipton decided to jump into the world of DJing.
From his past work at the East Village record store Turntable Lab and Scratch DJ Academy, Mr. Tipton further developed his taste and skills on the decks. He enjoys the balancing act of crowd pleasing and trying to take people to new places; bringing the energy of some newer hits with trips down memory lane. He's held residencies in Manhattan and Brooklyn and played with the likes of Motor City Drum Ensemble, Dam Funk, DJ Spinna, Stretch Armstrong, Rich Medina, and Natasha Diggs.
In addition to DJing, Mr. Tipton creates original production, sample based production, remixes, and edits. Using a combination of vinyl rips, keyboards, synths, emulators, and a drum machine.
